Frequently asked questions

What is Books Tracker?

Books Tracker is a personal book library manager and reading tracker. It helps you catalogue books, scan ISBN barcodes, manage collections and series, track reading progress, and follow reading statistics.

Can I scan books by ISBN barcode?

Yes. Books Tracker includes an ISBN barcode scanner with torch support, manual ISBN entry, duplicate detection, and Quick Scan mode for adding multiple books quickly.

Why can't Books Tracker find my book?

Books Tracker is a free, ad-free app built by a single developer. To look up a book, it queries eight public catalogues: Open Library, Google Books, Apple Books and the national libraries of France (BnF), Germany (DNB), Spain (BNE), Norway (NB) and Portugal (PORBASE). These sources are free but incomplete, especially for recent, regional, self-published or non-Western titles.

Complete commercial book databases cost between 200 and 300 euros per month, far more than the app earns. Rather than adding ads or a subscription, I chose to stay on free sources.

When a book isn't found, you can always add it manually from the scanner or the search screen: enter the title, author and any details you know, then pick a cover with the built-in cover search or paste a cover URL. You can also import a CSV file if you already have a list. A book added by hand supports every feature, exactly like any other in your library: reading progress, collections, series, statistics and sync.

If you find the app useful, you can support its development.

Does Books Tracker sync across devices?

Yes, on Android and iOS. Books Tracker can sync your library through Google Drive AppData, using a private app-only folder. Desktop versions can still use CSV import and export.

Can I track reading progress and reading stats?

Yes. You can track page-by-page progress, reading history, reading days, streaks, pages read, books started, books finished, dropped books, genres, authors, and calendar activity.
